North Jazz Groups Compete at 2008 Purdue Jazz Festival
Congratulations to Studio Jazz Ensemble, Combo 1, and Combo 3 for being named "Honor Bands" in their respective rooms at the Purdue Jazz Festival 2008, held January 17-20. This means they had the highest score of the day of all groups that performed in those venues.
In addition, Lewis Rogers (guitar) and Ben Lumsdaine (drums) were named Top Musicians of the Festival and invited to play at the Finale Concert that Saturday evening in the All-Star Sextet.
Earning trophies for Outstanding Soloists of their rooms (only 2 total students per room) were: Lewis Rogers, Ben Lumsdaine, Ian Ottinger (bass), and Charlie Frederick (trumpet).
Additionally, students who performed noteworthy improvised solos were awarded Soloist Certificates. They are as follows:
Advanced Jazz Ensemble: Tommy Whiteman (drums), Jesse Feddersen (bari sax), Hannah Clendening (trumpet), Theresa Lier (violin), & Lewis Rogers.
Studio Jazz Ensemble: Nick Carpenter (trombone), Naama Levy (piano), Charlie Frederick, Evan Smail (bari sax), & Jesse Feddersen (alto sax).
Combo 1: Lewis, Ben, Ian
Combo 2: Thea Bransby (vocals), Kevin Hinnefeld (tenor sax), Eric Arnold (alto sax), Hannah Clendening, Lewis Rogers, Ben Lumsdaine.
Combo 3: Galen VanHorn (trumpet), Jesse Feddersen (tenor sax), Ian Ottinger.
