Bloomington North Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra both received Gold Ratings at the ISSMA State Qualifications Contest on April 29. In addition, the Symphonic Band had high enough scores to qualify for the State Finals, for the 25th time out of the contest's 27-year history, and with the highest point total ever in our school's history! They placed 9th out of 16 at the Finals on May 7.

Additionally, the Symphonic Band traveled to Chicago on April 30 and was named Grand Champion at the National Adjudicators Invitational. They earned the award for Best Percussion Secstion and Joshua Clampitt and Caleb Ernest were named Outstanding Soloists.

The indoor drum line named MADISON INDEPENDENT (from Madison, IN) has won the WGI World Championship! They had a perfect season and scored a 94+ at the Finals on Friday held in Dayton, OH. North musicians Warren Tait, Justin Hatton, and Henry Alexander are members, so CONGRATULATIONS to them! Also, North's percussion instructor, Jake Blanton, is the head instructor of Madison Independent. This must have truly been an exciting experience for all involved...way to go!

The North Winter Guard has had a busy and successful season participating in Indiana High School Color Guard Association competition circuit.

At Terre Haute North High School, they received a Gold rating and 4th place out of 17 guards, while at Northview High School, they earned a Gold rating and 3rd place out of 21 guard. On March 5, the guard placed 3rd out of 37 at the IHSCGA Class AA Divisional Finals! Again, they also received a gold rating for their performance.

The guard is under the direction of Christy Wilson, Gina Taton, and Lia Morris.

At Saturday's 38th Annual Dimensions in Jazz Festival at Ball State, Advanced Jazz was awarded 1st place in Emmens Auditorium, Studio Jazz was awarded 2nd place in Pruis Hall, and the Trio was awarded 1st place in the Combo room. The trio is comprised of freshmen Stefan Lenthe and Evan Main, plus 8th grader Chris Parker. There were 45 big bands and 15 combos entered in the festival from all around the state of Indiana. Intermediate Jazz and the other combos also earned Division 1 ratings and turned in GREAT performances.

Hannah Fidler was named outstanding bassist of the festival, senior trombonist Thomas Whitlock was cited and awarded a scholarship to the Birch Creek Summer Music Clinic as was sophomore guitarist, Chris Alexeev. Sophomore Lydia Elmer was named the outstanding trombone soloist of Pruis Hall and sophomore Aurora Detour was presented with an outstanding soloist award in Sursa Hall.

Advanced Jazz was invited to open the night concert which featured Herbie Hancock's drummer, Mike Clark, along with BHSN alumnus, Ian Taylor.

It was an awesome day of performing, listening and learning for ALL of our students. Congratulations on representing yourselves and your school and your band program in such stellar fashion.
