The Bloomington North Advanced Jazz Ensemble is one of only two high school jazz bands nationwide to be invited to perform at the 62nd annual Midwest International Band & Orchestra Clinic, held Dec. 16-19, 2008, at Chicago’s Hilton Hotel & Towers Grand Ballroom. North’s performance begins Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 9:30 p.m.

Guest artists will include Indiana University Professor of Jazz, Patrick Harbison as well as Chicago tenor saxophonist, Scott Burns. The band will premiere two works, one composed and to be conducted by the current director of the Count Basie Orchestra, Dennis E. Wilson. Other guest conductors include Northern Illinois Professor of Jazz, Ron Modell, North band director, Thomas Wilson and Tri-North band director, Chris Grifa.

Over 20,000 musicians and music educators are expected to attend what is one of the largest music convention in the world.

Janis Stockhouse is the leader of the band at North, and previously brought student musicians to the Midwest Clinic in 1982 and 1987.
