Janis Stockhouse Retirement Party
As you may have heard, Ms. Janis Stockhouse, is retiring at the end of this school year. She has been done a fantastic job over the years, selflessly devoting much of her life to her students, and while we will miss her as a instructor, let's wish her a wonderful and enjoyable retirement, with plenty of time to follow her own interests and pursuits!
OPEN HOUSE
A group of current and former Band Boosters and student alumni are organizing a "Congratulations, Ms. Stockhouse" Open House and Reunion to which all are invited. We hope parents and students, from the past and present will stop by, as well as BHSN band fans, colleagues, fellow musicians, and friends.
The date is Sunday, May 19, 2019, 1 - 4 pm. The location is the new Marching Hundred Hall on the IU campus across from Assembly Hall. (910 E 17th St)
That's the Sunday after the final two concerts at BHSN. While there are sure to be goodbyes at the concerts, we don't want to take all the attention away from the graduating seniors, so we'll try to concentrate the Janis Mania on Sunday.
SEND US PICTURES AND VIDEOS
We would like to have pictures and videos spanning Ms. Stockhouse's career, the further in the past the better! We already have all the pictures on the band website, but especially good or special ones can be submitted even if they are repeats. The really fun pictures will be pre-digital, so search the old albums for pictures of you or your kids in uniform or with instruments and scan or photograph some good ones to share! Anything with Ms. Stockhouse would be awesome.
To upload images to the DropBox account created for this event, go to http://tinyurl.com/y6qtjc5g
It would be really great if you could take the time to edit the filenames of the images to reflect the date and/or names of people shown. For example "Karen Smith '02" or "Color Guard at SemiState 1998". You won't be able to view the images until the Open House! (Maybe we'll be able to post them publicly afterwards).
For videos, we're thinking of concert and jazz band performances that would be nice to have playing for background music. They would need to have good sound quality. If you could post them on YouTube and send us the link, we'll see if this works out. In any case, we can share the list with everyone and have fun being amazed at how awesome everyone sounded. Be sure to say which band is playing and the year. To submit video links, email jsretiring@gmail.com
DONATIONS
We are also planning a special gift for Ms. Stockhouse -- a jazz piece commissioned in her honor! This will take some time to compose, so it won't be premiered at the Open House, but we'll let everyone know when it is. Donations toward this can be made online via PayPal, by check via mail to BHSN Band, and by check or cash at the Open House.
You could also make a donation to the "Janis Stockhouse BHSN Bands Endowment Fund". Through the MCCSC Community Endowment, the interest from this account will be used by the Band Boosters and the band directors to support the wonderful North band programs.
Both of these donation links are available at www.bhsnbands.com
Of course, greeting cards with a memory to share are always great! If you'd like to send a card to be presented to her at the Open House, mail it to Tom Wilson, BHSN, 3901 N Kinser Pike, Bloomington IN 47404
