Boston Scientific Picnic Success
Aug. 8, 2010

THANK YOU is simply not enough for all the volunteers who worked tirelessly at the Owen County fairgrounds this weekend to earn the BHSN Band Program $3,500!! Some even worked Friday afternoon/evening and all day Saturday. And to the students who have been sweating all week at band camp, and then spent your Saturday working out in the hot sun, I'm so impressed with your dedication! I hope you're all getting some needed rest today! The location change was a bit of a surprise, but in typical band supporter fashion, everyone just went with the flow and chipped in to help. Thank you all so much for making this fundraiser, and the Boston Scientific employee picnic, a big success!!

The event company will be reimbursing the band for the additional travel our volunteers incurred to go to Owen County. If you would like to claim your reimbursement amount (mileage for about 30 miles), please let Janis know and she will see that you are reimbursed. Otherwise, that money will be additional funds for the Band program.

Again, thanks for your time and dedication!

Nan Morrow

Location change for Boston Scientific picnic
Aug. 6, 2010

For all who are signed up to work at the Boston Scientific picnic Aug.6 or 7, there is an important change – the event is being held at the Owen County Fairgrounds in Spencer, not the Monroe County Fairgrounds. I am so sorry about the mix-up – it is due entirely to an error on the part of the event company that is managing the picnic. Today’s crew is already on their way over to Owen County. The event company will reimburse everyone for the difference in mileage – about 30 miles roundtrip. If you’re on for tomorrow (or your kids are working tomorrow), please let me know if this changes your plans for being able to work. I understand this is a major change in plans, and again, I apologize to you. Thank you so much for your willingness to help! I know this goes above and beyond, but if you can still help tomorrow, we really need you!

Anyone wishing to carpool on Saturday should meet at North shortly before 8:45am.

Thank you, Nan

Have you ever been prouder to be part of the Bloomington community? What a remarkable collaboration we witnessed between our schools and our community." Go to give4ECAs.org to check out how much the various events raised and other details.

Thanks to everyone who contributed time and/or money to the effort! Let's have a super band season to celebrate!

2010 Marching Band Program Announced
July 23, 2010

This year's Cougar Band program, "Pulling Out All the Stops," is based on thematic material from the Maestoso (Finale) movement of the "Organ Symphony" (Symphony No. 3 in C minor, Op. 78) by Camille Saint-Saens. It was arranged by Bruce McConnell, currently Director of Concert Percussion at Carmel High School.

Drum Majors will be Aaron Anderson and Abby Zinman.

This year, the Cougar Band will be traveling for the first time to the Bands of America Regional held in the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan! This will be an overnight trip, with departure after school on Oct. 8. We will perform in the morning prelims and, hopefully, again in the evening finals on Oct. 9, returning to Bloomington late on the 9th.

See the website calendar for the rehearsal schedule! A newsletter with detailed information has been sent by snail mail also.
